The convent was completed in 1780, but some parts date from 1608. This is one of Rio's oldest structures. Its baroque interior contains priceless and ornate colonial art. The convent exhibits woodcarvings and a variety of wall paintings. It is a local custom that single women looking for husbands come to pray here!

This natural park is a city-owned complex, which features the Jardim Zoológico zoo and the Nacional Museu, as well as hundreds of acres of lush park.  Canoes can be rented for paddling around the ponds, and shows are often performed on a stage located in the  middle of a lake.
